Destination Guide

Grande Cache, Alberta, is a beautiful town nestled on a mountain plateau 4200 ft. (1289m) above sea level, approximately 430 km west of Edmonton. With an abundance of shopping, restaurants and evening entertainment choices, Grande Cache has something for everyone. Looking for something a little more energetic? There are also endless trails for motorized activities, fishing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing, horseback riding and more.

If you're into extreme sports, there's the one and only Great Canadian Death Race, held every August long weekend. Touted as one of the world's toughest adventure races, this 125 km course begins and ends at 4200' above sea level, passes over three mountains, and has over 17,000' of elevation changes. There's also a major river crossing at the awe inspiring Hell's Gate canyon at the meeting of the Smoky and Sulphur rivers. Individual and relay team competitors will push themselves to their limits against the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Competing is hard; finishing is harder, and in the end there are no big prizes, just the satisfaction of knowing you've pushed yourself farther than you ever thought possible. Oh, and you get to brag that you not only competed in, but finished the Great Canadian Death Race.
